$5,000 Reward Offered For Weapon Used In Shooting Of Wayne State Police Officer

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities are hoping a $5,000 cash reward will be enough to encourage someone to speak up about a shooting that left a Wayne State University police officer fighting for his life.

Officer Collin Rose, 29, was on duty Tuesday evening when he radioed to say he was investigating possible thefts of navigation systems from cars and SUVs, and was about to speak to someone apparently on a bike. When backup arrived on the scene, in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Trumbull, they found Rose on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.

Rose was rushed to the hospital and immediately underwent surgery. He is now on life support and is in "very grave" condition, according to Wayne State Police Chief Tony Holt.

Shortly after the shooting, which occurred around 6:30 p.m., police arrested Deangelo Lamarr Davis without incident about three blocks from where the incident happened. Originally identified as a person of interest, Davis was officially named as a suspect on Wednesday morning.

As police continue to investigate the shooting, carrying out a warrant in the 3600 block of Lincoln in search of "physical evidence," authorities are still trying to track down the weapon used in the crime.

"The gun has not been recovered," said Holt. "ATF right now has a $5,000 reward out for any information leading to the recovery of the weapon."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Detroit division at 313-202-3400. You can also submit a tip anonymously by texting the code "ATFDET" to 63975.
