Metro Detroit Theaters To Play 'Rogue One' For 30 Straight Hours

LIVONIA (WWJ) -- The latest installment to the Star Wars movie franchise -- Rogue One -- won't arrive in theaters until December 15, but it's already one of the hottest tickets in the country.

According to box office analysts, the film is tracking towards a $130 million opening weekend.

Because of high demand, Phoenix Theatres will play Rogue One for 30 continuous hours at all three of its Michigan locations, including its 10-screen theater located at Laurel Park Place in Livonia.

Corey Jacobson, president of Phoenix Theatres, says the theater did the same thing last year for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

"We also had a lot of people last year too that work second shift, that work third shift or they have odd hours and we have a lot of fans who want to buy the tickets and watch the movie in a repeatedly -- more than once -- and just kind of make a night of it," Jacobson said. "I was just stunned by how many people were actually just that excited to watch the picture over and over and over again, but they are."

The Force Awakens shattered box office records in December 2015, setting the all-time records for most money made domestically ($936.6 million) and biggest opening weekend ($247.9 million).

Tickets for Rogue One are now on sale as part of the theater's Cyber Monday promotion. Phoenix Theatres are located in Wayne, Livonia and Monroe.
