GFL Trash Pick Up Suspended Due To Snowy Weather

DETROIT (WWJ) - While sleet, rain, or snow may not stop mail delivery - that same motto doesn't necessarily apply to trash pickup.

Officials say GFL Environmental Corporation, which took over Rizzo, will not be picking up trash Monday in any of the cities where they normally work like Sterling Heights, Livonia and Wolverine Lake.

GFL is picking up garbage in Detroit where the trucks can get down the streets. Smaller cities like Walled Lake, Centerline, Flat Rock and Gibraltor will be on their normal collection schedules.

Collection days will be delayed one day all week, similar to a holiday - if you have a Friday pick up day -- GFL says that trash will be picked up on Saturday.  [More Information HERE].

The GFL offices are also closed because of the snowstorm according to a statement from Sterling Heights city hall.

The forecast was calling for six to ten inches of snow and we got that and then some. The National Weather Service says Sterling Heights, Romulus, Wyandotte and White Lake reported 11 inches of snow over a 24-hour period. Ten inches of snow was reported in Eastpointe and Flint. Nine inches of the white stuff is on the ground in Livonia, Howell and Brighton. Eight inches of snow was reported in Wixom and Port Huron.
