Toddler Shot In The Face Dies, Police Searching For Person Of Interest

DETROIT (WWJ) - A toddler rushed to the hospital Wednesday evening after being shot in the face has died.

Authorities say the three-year-old child boy was shot about 7:00 p.m. at an apartment building on Rossiter Street, north of the I-94 and Cadieux area on Detroit's east side. Police say the mother, her boyfriend and another child, a one-year-old, were in the home at the time.

He was taken to St. John Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

No suspects have been named but police are searching for the boyfriend of the toddler's mother -- 22-year-old Demetrius Lorenzo Peels, described as a "person of interest" in the case.

Peels is described as 5 foot 9 inches and weighs 175 pounds. Police are encouraging Peels to turn himself in.

No word on the circumstances that led to the shooting.
