DETROIT (WWJ) – A toddler rushed to the hospital Wednesday evening after being shot in the face has died.
Authorities say the three-year-old child boy was shot about 7:00 p.m. at an apartment building on Rossiter Street, north of the I-94 and Cadieux area on Detroit’s east side. Police say the mother, her boyfriend and another child, a one-year-old, were in the home at the time.
He was taken to St. John Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
No suspects have been named but police are searching for the boyfriend of the toddler’s mother — 22-year-old Demetrius Lorenzo Peels, described as a “person of interest” in the case.
Peels is described as 5 foot 9 inches and weighs 175 pounds. Police are encouraging Peels to turn himself in.
No word on the circumstances that led to the shooting.
If you know the whereabouts of Peels or have any information regarding this shooting you are asked to contact Detroit police.
