The family of an 8-year-old girl who befriended Michigan State University basketball star Adreian Payne is asking that people attending her memorial service next week wear bright colors and smiles in celebration of her life.
Tom Izzo was among those who honored Lacey’s memory during a rally on the MSU campus following her death Tuesday from cancer.
The crowd stood to applaud Payne, who spoke softly in accepting the award, saying he nearly didn’t travel to Los Angeles after the girl’s death but was encouraged to by her father.
“This little tiny girl, she wasn’t that big,” Izzo said. “She wasn’t that strong. But she sure was powerful, wasn’t she?”
