Several Detroit building safety inspectors were formally charged Friday in 36th District Court with ignoring code violations in exchange for bribes.

One resident called the council members “Judas,” for considering the lease, adding, “It has one jewel in it and you’re going to take it. Are we ignorant?”
“It’s probably the second most difficult job in this country behind the president,” Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said.
Banks, 35, was convicted eight times between 1998 and 2004 of writing bad checks and credit card fraud.
“Peoples’ expectations are so beaten down, people think this is just the way things have to be. They don’t have to be like this,” Mike Duggan said.
