What's Going On Under the Ice? A Cabled Observatory Gives Michigan Tech Researchers a PeekScientists at Michigan Technological University in the western Upper Peninsula turned several existing lab instruments into a sophisticated probe they have deployed all winter under the thick ice and snow covering the Keweenaw Waterway, which runs between Houghton and Hancock and connects two parts of Lake Superior. It's the first time they've had a long look at what goes on under the water in winter.
