New Red Wings Arena
This summer’s work included initial ground clearing, utility relocation and earth retention.
Olympia Development officials say imploding the 13-story building reduces demolition time from three months to one morning.
A piece of Detroit history is set to come crumbling to the ground on Saturday.
One of two shuttered hotels near the site of the new Detroit Red Wings arena will be imploded next week.
“We’re very happy with the individuals that are coming out and the type of experience that we’re getting from Detroiters.”
The deep bowl will also allow the facility to be 20 percent lower than typical arenas, officials said.
Olympia has said demolition of the hotel is needed in order to build a high-capacity loading bay for the arena.
Fans haven’t been able to see any of the progress due to large barricades blocking the $450 million project. But that’s about to change.
Construction crews have started site preparation for the new Detroit Red Wings arena on Woodward in Detroit.
This means construction on the site can begin at anytime.
