Winter Storm Warning
Metro Detroiters are making the best of the region’s first big snowstorm of the season, which peaked during the evening rush hour, causing widespread traffic accidents while interrupting hundreds of flights at the state’s largest airport.
Winter Weather Advisory posted until Thursday morning. Spinout accidents reported across Metro Detroit as a result of snow covered and slippery roads.
A snowstorm hitting the Midwest dumped more than 19 inches of snow in northern Michigan and knocked out power to at least 142,000 state electricity customers.
Heavy snow is falling in parts of northern Michigan, with more than 5 inches already accumulated and forecasts for up to 14 inches before the Midwest’s first major snowstorm of the season ends.
It’s looking like a white Christmas is pretty much a sure thing in parts of northern Michigan, where a Winter Storm Warning takes effect Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service predicts rain, freezing ran and sleet, which will cause problems for drivers during the morning commute.
