Best Dive Bars in Detroit

Where are all the great dive bars these days? Every time you find a place you like, it suddenly becomes the town's hottest newest, not-so-best-kept secret, forcing the older clientele (the reasons it is a "dive" bar usually) to leave in frustration. Well, we crawled some of the dive-iest bars in Detroit to find 3 of the best. Here goes.

The Magic Stick resides in the original second floor of the Garden Bowl. The venue began to take shape in 1992 when eight of the twelve lanes were covered to accommodate ten billiard tables plus a dance floor and stage for live entertainment. One year later the final four bowling lanes were covered to accommodate growing audiences for live music. In early 2000, the Magic Stick underwent another renovation, classing up the joint with new carpeting, tile, raised platforms, new lighting and a larger stage and dance floor. The Magic Stick has consistently been recognized as one of Detroit's top live music venues. Critics from Rolling Stone to Metro Times have designated the Magic Stick as the city's best bet to see a live show.
