Best Places To Buy Cookies In Metro Detroit

Everyone is familiar with chain places to buy cookies, like Mrs. Fields, but what about more local places? Check out this list for the best non-chain dessert places that have great cookies.
Astoria Pastry Shop
320 South Main St.
Royal Oak, MI 48067
(248) 582.9220
astoriapastryshop.com

Astoria can be found in both Royal Oak and downtown Detroit, and it has a great selection of pastries and desserts. It opened in 1971, and its black and white cookies continue to be very popular among its customers. Make sure to check out its chocolate chunk cookies, apricot cookies and Michigan cherry cookies, when in season. Parking is available nearby on the street as well as in structures.

Bartz Bakery
1532 N. Telegraph Road
Dearborn, MI 48128
(313) 562-0986

You can find Bartz Bakery close to the intersection of Telegraph and Ford Road. Bartz is a family-owned bakery. Try its Swedish dream cookie or perhaps one of the tulip cookies, which are very popular. The shop also sells donuts, rolls, cakes, bagels, cupcakes and more baked goods; it even has specialty ethnic cookies like kolachky (a Czech specialty that looks like cannoli, but with fruit inside). The bakery is open 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Sunday.

Apple Annie's Kitchen & Bakery
39793 Garfield Road
Clinton Township, MI 48038
(586) 263-7220
www.appleannieskitchen.com

Apple Annie's has several locations: this one (Clinton Twp.) and one in Roseville, as well as a sister store, Friar Tuck's, in Warren. The store is a restaurant plus a bakery and has a wide variety of cookies, including low-calories treats for those who are trying to diet (reduced-fat and sugar-free cookies). The restaurant is also very well-known for its soup, as it was voted Top 5 in Michigan for two years in a row. So it might be worth picking up a cup for lunch or dinner with your dessert. The restaurant and bakery is open every day of the week from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Eskimo Jack's Artisan Cookies And Ice Cream
24551 W. 12 Mile Road
Southfield, MI 48034
(248) 352-5695
www.eskimojacks.com

You can find Eskimo Jack's inside The Bagel Factory on 12 Mile near Telegraph. Ice cream fans can rejoice because the store sells ice cream cookie sandwiches, which make for a great treat in the summer (or really anytime, if you love ice cream!). Josh Charlip, the founder and president of Eskimo Jack's, started the store because he was "obsessed with cookies" while growing up, and wanted to "rid the world of cardboard cookies and flavorless ice cream." If you just want regular cookies, the store has that too, with flavors ranging from double chocolate with peanut butter chips to white chocolate and dried cherries. But they also make your more standard chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and more. The store offers party rentals (party carts and its ice cream truck) if you're in need for an occasion.

Jenn's Sweet Treats
Berkley, MI
jennssweettreats.com

Jennifer (Jenn) Groh bakes cookies out of her house in Berkley, and all of her desserts are personally baked and decorated. She's known for her sugar shortbread custom cookies, which are peanut and tree nut-free. The cookies are 3-4" and they start at $2.75 for single cookies; the minimum order quantity is 12 cookies. She has baked before for baby showers, holiday parties, "just for fun" cookie gifts, weddings and cookie bouquets. You can view customer testimonials on her website. Pick-up is at her house in Berkley, unless you have an order over $250+, in which case they can be delivered (Oakland, Wayne and Macomb Counties only) for a small additional fee.
