Rum, made from sugar cane, was initially introduced in ancient India or China, with it evolving into a distilled form in the Caribbean sometime during the 1600s. From there, the elixir became popular in the North American colonies. Rum is currently enjoying a resurgence of popularity due in part to the many drinks that can quench the the thirst of Americans from coast to coast. Detroit has numerous places around town that serve up a mean rum cocktail- check them out for yourself.
