Divers Pull Body From Lake Near Where Missing Woman's Wallet Discovered

YPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ) - Police dive teams have recovered a body from a Washtenaw County lake, and family members it's that of Tonya Jackson — an Ypsilanti Township woman who went missing over a year ago.

The body was pulled from Ford Lake in Ypsilanti early Thursday morning, near the dam on Bridge Road, south of I-94.

Police had been searching the lake since Tuesday, after a passerby found Jackson's I.D. on the shore.

According to reports, a silver SUV, similar to one Jackson, 42, was driving at the time of her disappearance, was pulled from the lake.

Jackson, a mother of three, was last seen May 3, 2014, at Knight's Inn in Romulus, where she met with a coworker for drinks.

The lake is about a mile from where Jackson lived at Lakeshore Apartments. Police had previously searched the area surrounding the lake back in 2014, but found nothing related to Jackson's disappearance.

Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the woman's identity, although a member of Jackson's family told the Ann Arbor News "they're sure it's her."

Jerry Hagerman, a lifelong resident of the area, said he's not surprised that a body could stayed hidden there for so long.

"Probably up around the dam up there it's probably 40 or 50 feet deep at least. And the lake it deep — all of it," Hagerman said.

Police are expected to update on the case later Thursday.
