Traffic Alert: I-96 Completely Closed Through Weekend On Detroit's West Side
DETROIT (WWJ) - If you were planning to take I-96 on Detroit's west side this weekend, you're going to need a detour.
The Michigan Department of Transportation says I-96 is closed in both directions, express and local lanes, between Wyoming Avenue and M-8 (Davison Avenue). The closure is expected to end by 5 a.m. Monday.
Crews will be installing bridge supports for the reconstruction of the Cherrylawn Street pedestrian bridge.
Express lanes:
- Eastbound I-96 express lanes will be closed at M-39 (Southfield Freeway). The detour is southbound M-39 to eastbound I-94 to downtown Detroit.
- Westbound I-96 express lanes will be closed between Livernois Avenue/Grand River Avenue and M-39. The detour is westbound I-94 to northbound M-39.
Local lanes:
- Eastbound I-96 local lanes will be closed from Schaefer Highway to M-8. The detour is Schaefer Highway to Grand River Avenue, then the I-96 service drive to Livernois Avenue to I-96.
- Westbound I-96 local lanes will be closed from Livernois Avenue to Wyoming Avenue. The detour is the Livernois Avenue exit to the I-96 service drive to I-96. The Greenfield Road on ramp to westbound I-96 will also be closed.
