Snow Showers Cause Slick Morning Commute

Drivers getting a taste of winter survival weather on the roads Thursday morning. And a little extra time, space and patience will be needed on the roadways as a dusting of snow and generally wet conditions make for a slick commute.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reported there had already been a couple of crashes along I-75 during the early morning hours although the salt trucks have been out. Dewey said on the Lodge freeway only one lane was salted down with drivers seeming to stay on that one bare spot, making for one long line of commuters headed toward downtown Detroit for another day of work. Elsewhere, on I-696 more salt was given and there were generally wet conditions.

But it's going to be the surface streets, the curves and the corners that are going to be more challenging for drivers trying to make a quick turn or a sudden stop as the wet snow mixture is causing roads to be quite slippery.
