Snow Covers Roads, Numerous Spinouts Reported

A couple inches of snow that fell on southeastern Michigan early Saturday morning created slick roads and made driving treacherous in spots.

Police were responding to numerous spinout accidents Saturday.  Earlier Saturday, Livingston County Sheriff deputies closed U.S. 23 at M-59 because of an accident.

Other accidents were reported on I-696, I-275, I-75 and the Southfield Freeway.  State Police and local departments were encouraging drivers to slow down.

Surface streets were snow-covered and slippery.  Speaking live on WWJ Saturday morning, Road Commission for Oakland County spokesman Craig Bryson said fewer plow and salt trucks were on the roads because of the weekend.

"Because of the day of the week and time of the storm, you know, there's no, obviously no morning rush hour on Saturday, so our guidelines are a little different," Bryson said.  "Different for treating it today than had it been a weekday morning. We have a few less trucks in than we would have had had it been a Monday..Tuesday morning for example."

Bryson says they'll have road crews out all day cleaning up the roads. With the next snowfall expected Monday night, he says they'll be ready.
