LANSING (WWJ) – According to Governor Rick Snyder, Michigan is prepared for a blizzard. In anticipation of the major winter storm blowing in Tuesday night, Snyder released a statement to the media, saying the State is taking prudent steps to prepare for the storm’s possible impact.

“The state’s comprehensive emergency management procedures are being followed as we closely coordinate with our emergency management team, all state agencies and the National Weather Service,” Snyder said.

“The State Emergency Operations Center will be activated this evening and will remain at the monitoring level to track the weather and maintain communication with state and local government emergency management personnel. We also have our men and women of the Michigan National Guard on a higher level of readiness in the event they are needed to assist communities,” he said.

In addition, Snyder said state agencies are planning appropriately so that adequate staffing is ensured in essential facilities including hospitals and prisons.

“We urge all residents to use extreme caution during this weather event and put safety first.  Please monitor your local news media and stay abreast of changing weather conditions,” Snyder said.

Snyder urged residents to consider winter saftey tips provided by State Police. You can find them at this link.

Accuweather says there is the potential for up to more than a food of snowfall in Metro Detroit.  A Blizzard Warning is in effect through 7 p.m. Wednesday.

  1. Susie up north says:

I think he means the storm he is creating by taking 1.2 B from schools and local government and giving 1.8B to corporations.

He is creating the budget disaster so he can put in place his emergency managers to take away democratically elected local government seats and school boards. Then they can give either to corporations to run. Power to the state!
Money to the R business cronies of Gateway Rick. A blizzard alright – of corporate power to take away local control and union opposition. Wake up Michigan! Strike.
