Traffic Alert: Telegraph Construction Resumes In Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - The Michigan Department of Transportation announced crews will resume work on the US-24 (Telegraph Road) corridor in Oakland County on Monday, April 11. This year's work involves rebuilding the northbound lanes from 12 Mile to 15 Mile roads.

Northbound Telegraph reconstruction was rescheduled to this spring after last year's southbound reconstruction was extended in order to relocate a sanitary sewer line from 14 Mile to 13 Mile roads.

Starting April 11, a single lane will be closed on northbound Telegraph in order for crews to construct a temporary lane north of 13 Mile Road. The temporary lane will allow for two lanes to be open during peak travel times.

During construction, there will be intermittent closures of median turnarounds. The closures are necessary in order for new utility lines to be placed underneath the pavement.

Alternate crossovers will be maintained during construction and one lane will be open on eastbound and westbound 13 Mile Road at US-24, while motorists on westbound 14 Mile Road will be detoured to Maple Road.

In addition, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures for wrap-up work, including sidewalk construction, landscaping the median, signs and permanent pavement markings. This work is designed to improve safety and promote economic vitality on this heavily traveled corridor.

The reconstruction is expected to be completed in early August.
