New Charges Against Suspected Detroit Serial Rapist

DETROIT (WWJ) - A seventh case is being brought against a suspected serial rapist accused of targeting women on Detroit's eastside earlier this year.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's office has charged Raynard Coleman with rape, kidnapping and armed robbery in connection with an attack on a 19-year old woman.

Investigators allege Coleman sexually assault the woman in the back of a house on Hazelridge Street.

A video arraignment was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 36th District Court in Detroit.

A combination of tips, community involvement, police work and DNA helped police collar the 31-year-old back in January.  Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee credited science, in the form of DNA evidence linking Coleman to six victims, who were sexually assaulted between Jan 1st and Jan 14.

The victims were between 17 and 33 years of age, all but one were attacked at bus stops, all late at night or early morning hours.

Coleman is scheduled to be in court on these previous charges on Monday. He faces multiple life sentences if convicted.
