Son Of Inkster Mayor Arrested For Abducting Ex-Girlfriend

PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - The son of the Mayor of Inkster is being held in Washtenaw County Jail on $350,000 bond.

Kwame Hampton was arraigned Friday on charges of abducting his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint and assaulting her.

Police said the 23-year-old victim was leaving her home in Pittsfield Township last Wednesday morning when Kwame Hampton jumped out of his car and grabbed her. She told police he forced her into his car at gunpoint. The victim was able to escape when the car stopped at a stop sign.

Police later arrested Kwame Hampton at the home of his father, Inkster Mayor Hilliard Hampton, where they recovered what they believe is the gun used in the abduction.

While investigating the kidnapping, police discovered complaints the woman made about being sexually assaulted by Kwame Hampton earlier this month. She told investigators he broke into her house and forced himself on her several times.

Kwame Hampton is now facing charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence and possession of a firearm during a felony. Those are in addition to charges of first-degree home invasion and one count each of first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
