Temperatures To Sizzle Over Weekend

DETROIT (WWJ) - After thermometers across the state flirted with the 100 mark Thursday, a weekend forecast with temps in the mid to low 90s doesn't seem so bad.

But don't expect much relief Friday. Even though the high is estimated at 94 degrees, the heat index could reach around 100. An Excessive Heat Warning is still in place for Lenawee and Monroe counties.

Record temperatures have soared past 100 degrees in Metro Detroit after a week-long heat wave, causing the closure of over 100 public schools. Several communities have also been affected by rotating blackouts, while their city's power grid struggles to keep up with the higher electrical demand cause by the heat.

For those faced with no air conditioning or power, several public locations throughout the region have converted to cooling centers, offering some relief from the heat. (See the complete list here)
