Southfield Freeway Construction Finishes Ahead Of Schedule
DETROIT (WWJ) - Good news for Metro Detroit drivers. M-DOT is in the process of re-opening the Southfield Freeway and drivers at the Seven Mile southbound entrance ramp are among the first to feel the smooth drive.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Chrystal Knight reports that the $80 million, three-mile stretch, of the Southfield Freeway project is opening to drivers two weeks earlier than expected .
It was celebrated with a special ribbon cutting ceremony featuring a live band and Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh.
"When there's a road project like this , all you can think about is the inconvenience cuz you can't get across bridges. It takes you longer. Now that it's done, I think we'll be thinking about this beautiful, shiny new roadway that's needed repair for years," said Pugh.
Now M-DOT wants to remind motorists that 'open to drivers' doesn't mean the project is complete. There will be intermittent lane closures as they put the finishing touches on this and that's gonna happen through mid- November.
