I-75 Closes Temporarily As Winter Storm And White-Out Conditions Make Driving Dicey

DETROIT (WWJ) - As winter makes its return to Metro Detroit Friday with a burst of winter snow and wind, conditions are much worse to the north as a section of northbound I-75, near Bay City closed for about two hours due to white out conditions.

WWJ's Lance Howard reports that multiple accidents reportedly involve up to 100 vehicles.

Earlier Friday, an Air Tran aircraft ran off of the taxi way while attempting to take off this from the Gerald Ford Airport, outside Grand Rapids, due to heavy lake effect snow and high winds.

WOOD Radio Reporter John Smith tells us that the plane was heading to Orlando but it slid off the taxi way and the nose gear got grounded in the snow and wet ground. They had to deplane everybody so they could get things right.

WWJ is told there was damage to the plane, but there are no reports of injuries to any of the nearly 120 passengers and crew on board.
