Water Main Break Closes I-96 Service Drive In Livonia

LIVONIA (WWJ) - It's a know before you go type of day, especially in Livonia, where a water main break is blocking an I-96 ramp and service drive.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports a 12-inch water main that parallels the westbound service drive of I-96/Levan, near Golfview street, broke overnight.

Westbound Schoolcraft is closed to traffic from Wayne Road to Levan Road, and the exit ramp from west I-96 to Levan is closed.

Livonia Police say the closure will last the rest of the day and may go into Thursday until repairs have been completed.

Crews have already taken several dump truck loads of fill out from around the main to reach the break. Officials say depending on what needs to be done, they may have to take out part of the service drive to replace the fill once the breach is located and repairs are complete.

The main break is affecting water service to at least a dozen homes along the service drive, although a boil water advisory has not been issued at this time.
