Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a know before you go kind of weekend, with several active construction zones bound to slow traffic down on metro Detroit freeways.

Save yourself some time and hassle by planning your route ahead of time to avoid the following road work areas announced by MDOT.

As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-275/I-94 interchange:

In Wayne County, bridge demolition will require the following restrictions from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Saturday:

  • Eastbound I-94 will have a single lane closed at I-275
  • The southbound I-275 ramp to eastbound I-94 will be closed and detoured

I-275:

In Wayne County, scheduled at 3 p.m. today, the northbound I-275 exit to Ecorse Road will open from earlier construction.

In Wayne County, the westbound Michigan Avenue ramp to northbound I-275 will be closed from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday for the setting of bridge beams on the structure that carries northbound I-275 over the Rouge River (located just north of Mich Ave).

I-75:

In Oakland County, northbound I-75 will have two lanes closed from Holly to Grange Hall roads from 8 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday for ongoing road work. In addition, the northbound I-75 ramps to and from Holly Road will be closed.

In Oakland County, the right two lanes of southbound I-75 will be closed from Crooks to Wattles roads, and the ramp from Crooks to southbound I-75 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday for pavement repair.

In Oakland County, northbound I-75 will have two lanes closed from Waldon Road to M-15, and southbound I-75 will have two lanes closed from M-15 to Sashabaw Road from 9 p.m. Friday until 4 p.m. Sunday for pavement repair.

In Oakland County, northbound I-75 will have two lanes closed from Grange Hall to Belford (exit 106) roads from 8 p.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday, and again from 7 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday for road repair.

I-94:

In Wayne County, sign truss replacement work will require the following restrictions on the westbound I-94 ramp to Merriman and Middlebelt roads starting at 9 p.m. Friday and ending by Noon on Saturday:

  • The ramps from westbound I-94 to northbound and southbound Merriman Road will be closed with traffic directed to Middlebelt Road
  • The ramps from northbound and southbound Middlebelt Road to westbound I-94 closed
  • A single lane on the westbound I-94 freeway

In Wayne County, westbound I-94 will have a single lane closed at Hannan Road (just west of I-275) from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and two lanes closed from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday for ongoing bridge work.

In Wayne County, eastbound I-94 will have two lanes closed over M-39 from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing bridge work. In addition, the Pelham Road ramp to eastbound I-94 will be closed during the same time frame.

In Detroit, eastbound and westbound I-94 will have alternating single and double lane closures between I-75 and Wyoming Ave from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Two left lanes will be closed from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday. All eastbound lanes will be open Sunday for Lions game day traffic.

In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94 will be reduced to a single lane between 23 Mile and County Line roads from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for ongoing road work.

I-96:

In Wayne County, the eastbound and westbound I-96 ramps to Merriman Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 3 p.m. Saturday in order for the county to pave a section of Merriman Road

In Oakland County, the westbound I-96 exit to southbound Milford Road will be closed from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. for ongoing bridge work. In addition, northbound and southbound Milford Road under I-96 will be closed and detoured from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday.

M-102 (Eight Mile Road):

In Detroit, eastbound 8 Mile Road will have two lanes closed just east of Southfield Freeway from Midnight Friday until Monday, Oct. 8 for utility work.

M-39 (Southfield Freeway):

In Wayne County, the southbound M-39 exit to Village Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday for pavement repair.

In Wayne County, the right lane of northbound M-39 will be closed at Warren from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday for repair.

In Wayne County, northbound and southbound M-39 will be reduced to a single lane under I-94 from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday for ongoing bridge work.

M-1 (Woodward Ave):

In Oakland County, northbound and southbound M-1 will have two lanes closed between 10 Mile and 14 Mile roads from 10 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday for ongoing road work.

US-24 (Telegraph Road):

In Oakland County, northbound and southbound Telegraph Road, between Cedarbrook Drive and Deep Run Drive, will be closed for fifteen minutes on Saturday morning sometime from 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. for the placement of a new aerial crossing.

Beginning the week of Monday, Oct 1:

I-275:

In Wayne County, the following ramp opening/closings are scheduled at the I-275/Ecorse Road interchange:

  • Monday, Oct 1 at 7 a.m., crews will close the southbound I-275 exit to Ecorse Road until mid-Nov for repair
  • Monday, Oct 1 at 3 p.m., crews will open the eastbound Ecorse Road ramp to southbound I-275
  • Wednesday, Oct 3 at 9 a.m., crews will close the westbound Ecorse Road ramp to northbound I-275 until mid-Nov

I-94:

In Macomb County, eastbound and westbound I-94 will have alternating single lane closures nightly between 23 Mile and County Line roads starting at 9 p.m. and ending by 6 a.m. the following mornings beginning Monday night and ending Friday morning.
