1 Killed, 2 Hurt In Lodge Freeway Accident

DETROIT (WWJ) - One person is dead and two others are hospitalized following a crash on the southbound Lodge freeway near 8 Mile Road.

Police say the driver of a Chevy pickup, Tuesday afternoon, pulled to the side of M-10 to readjust some cargo that was shifting in the truck bed. Both the driver and passenger got out of the truck; and that's when they, and the truck, were struck by a passing vehicle that was unable to stop in time.

The driver of the truck, a 21-year-man, was rushed to Sinai Grace Hospital with serious injuries.  The passenger, a 30-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was also hurt and is hospitalized.  The victims' names were not immediately released.

The soutbound Lodge was closed at M-39 South for over two hours following the incident, but has since reopened.
