DETROIT (WWJ) –  With Old Man Winter refusing to loosen his grip on Southeast Michigan, brace yourself for more record-setting weather.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan through noon Wednesday. AccuWeather days temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing Tuesday afternoon, and dangerously cold conditions will persist overnight Tuesday with wind chill values remaining 15 to 30 degrees below zero.

AccuWeather says the cold temps could set a record for Metro Detroit with actual lows expected to be 10 below zero. Health experts say exposure to the cold could cause frostbite in a short period of time.

Roads were snow-covered and slippery Monday morning, and freeway speeds were lower than normal.  Commute times were doubled and even tripled for thousands of metro Detroiters.

Near Wixom, WWJ’s Charlie Langton said he was moving between 30 and 40 miles-per-hour on westbound I-96 during the morning commute. WWJ’s Laura Bonnell said she was driving about 35 miles-per -hour along I-696 in Warren.

This past Saturday, Metro Detroit set a new record for the snowiest January. More than 32 inches of snow has fallen this month.
