DEARBORN (WWJ) - Police are investigating after a city-owned ambulance was involved in an accident near the Dearborn-Detroit border.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. Thursday on McGraw Street and Wyoming Avenue, just north of Michigan Avenue.

According to police, a Dearborn fire and rescue ambulance collided with a Ford Explorer in the intersection. Other circumstances surrounding the accident, including who may have had the right-of-way, were not immediately clear.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said the front end of the SUV is completely smashed in, while the ambulance hardly has any visible damage. Officials say no one was seriously injured.

A portion of the intersection is closed while police investigate, although traffic is still able to move through.
