Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - Road works crews will be out in full force this weekend, but the biggest construction news is taking place on I-96, which begins a seven-month shut down on Saturday.

The following road work projects have been announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-96:
In Wayne County, eastbound and westbound I-96 will be CLOSED between Newburgh and Telegraph roads beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. The full closure is expected to remain in place until October.

The eastbound and westbound I-96 service drives (Schoolcraft Road) have only the right lane open between Telegraph and Newburgh roads until October.

All ramps leading onto eastbound and westbound I-96, between Telegraph and Newburgh roads, will be closed starting at 7 p.m. Friday night until October. In addition, the following ramps will be closed until October:
• Outer Drive to westbound I-96;
• Greenfield Road to westbound I-96;
• Evergreen Road to westbound I-96; and
• Northbound and southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway) ramps to westbound I-96.

On westbound I-96, all express lanes will be forced onto M-39. Local lanes will be forced off onto Telegraph Road. The westbound I-96 local lanes will NOT be able to access M-39.

Eastbound M-14 traffic will be forced off onto I-275.

The northbound and southbound I-275 ramps to eastbound I-96 will be reduced to one lane, with all eastbound traffic forced off at Newburgh Road.

I-275:
In Wayne County, northbound I-275 from Ford Road to Koppernick Road will have the two left lanes closed from 7 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for pavement repairs.

I-375:
In Detroit, northbound and southbound I-375 will have moving intermittent double-lane closures between Jefferson Avenue and the I-75 interchange, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for detailed bridge inspections.

I-75:
In Detroit, northbound and southbound I-75 will have moving intermittent double-lane closures between I-375 and 8 Mile Road, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for detailed bridge inspections.

M-14:
In Wayne County, eastbound M-14 will have two lanes closed at Hines Drive from 7 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday for pavement repairs.

M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue):
In Macomb County, northbound and southbound M-53 will have the right lanes closed between Kennedy Circle and Chicago Road from 7 a.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Saturday, April 12, for utility work.

M-8 (Davison Freeway):
In Detroit, eastbound and westbound M-8 will have right lane closures between M-10 (Lodge Freeway) and Conant Street from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for detailed bridge inspections.
