Mom, Daughter Charged With Vandalism After Vulgar Image Chemically Burned Into Football Field

BEDFORD TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A woman and her teenage daughter have been charged with vandalism at a Michigan high school football field that included a depiction of male genitalia.

Grass killer was used to leave the shape of a penis spanning the length of the Bedford Community Stadium field in Monroe County's Bedford Township on Aug. 30.

The 50-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter, described as a straight-A student, along with a 17-year-old boy, are facing a felony charge of malicious destruction of turf or soil.

The woman also faces a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of children. She was arraigned Friday and released on bond. Her daughter is being charged as a juvenile.

Lawyer Tim Churchill represents the mother and daughter. He calls it "an unfortunate incident with unintended consequences."

The 17-year-old hasn't been arraigned yet.

Bedford Schools School Board President Michael Smith said that the field will cost about $10,000 to repair.

"We're disappointed that somebody felt that they had to put that image on a district with such pride," Smith told WWJ.

The group apparently got the idea from a similar stunt they saw on the Internet, according to police.
