More Snow Coming: Winter Weather Advisory Overnight

DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroiters should expect at least a couple more inches of snow on top of what's already there.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect for all of Southeast Michigan beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday through 8 a.m. Wednesday.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Bowers said a storm system will be racing eastward, from Chicago, across lower Michigan over the next several hours.

"We'll get into some steady snow probably after 8 or 9 o'clock this evening, and that'll go into the early morning," Bowers said.

"It looks like an inch or two. We called it one to three, but I kinda like the inch or two," he said. "Still that's enough, with temperatures only in the 20s, to make a mess out of the roads again."

The National Weather Service, which is forecasting a bit more — up to four inches — says the heaviest snow will move through metro Detroit between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.,with the snow tapering off early Wednesday morning.

There's also the chance for some freezing drizzle, forecasters say, snow-covered roads and reduced visibilities could result in
hazardous travel conditions.

After that system clears the state, Bowers says metro Detroit could see another inch of two of snowfall as a second, smaller event moves through, Wednesday afternoon.

Bowers said a high temperature Wednesday of 32 degrees will be followed be a blast of cold air, with temps plunging to 5 degrees over night, into Thursday. The high for Thursday will creep only up to around 14 degrees, Bowers said, despite some sunshine. Friday will be mostly cloudy and cold, with highs only getting up to around 21.

This latest comes after hundreds of schools canceled classes for a second consecutive day following a storm that dumped a snow across southeast Michigan — more than 16 inches in some places.

On Tuesday, people in many communities were still waiting for plows to clear residential streets.
