Possible Tornado? Strong Winds Cause Damage To Cars, Houses, Buildings In Canton

CANTON (WWJ) - The city of Canton was under no watch or warning when the storm came through moving cars and damaging buildings and homes.

Heavy rain and gusty wind pounded several areas of metro Detroit, while the city of Canton is waiting on confirmation that a tornado touched down.

Kathleen Rich with Canton Emergency Management says there are no reported injuries immediately following the storm but the city will be sending out crews including canines into the damaged areas.

"Nothing showed on radar," said Rich. "We'll get a damage assessment."

Rich stated that Lilley road at Joy is closed and will be for some time as debris is cleared from the road.

Just before 7 p.m. the National Weather Service reported from the Canton Fire and Rescue that thunderstorms produced wind damage along the Industrial area.

Several cars were moved in the storm as homes, garages and some commercial buildings were damaged during the downpour.

DTE says they have some scattered outages but are not reporting significant power outages.
