More Snow Expected To Fall Tuesday In Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroit is waking up to a fresh coating of snow -- and more is on the way.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for the entire southeast Michigan region.

Late Tuesday morning, spotters with the National Weather Service reported three inches of snow in Grosse Pointe Farms, Wyandotte, New Baltimore and Lapeer. Two inches was reported in Farmington and Ann Arbor. School districts in Lapeer and Monroe counties were closed due to the snowy conditions. Seven inches of snow was reported in parts of west Michigan, north of Grand Rapids.

CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus said an additional inch is expected during the Tuesday morning commute.

"It's going to be a windy, snowy day here in Detroit with temperatures in the 20s -- they'll start tumbling later on," said Madaus.

The heaviest snowfall is expected along I-94 and I-69, where visibility will be reduced to a quarter of a mile.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until seven o'clock tonight.

Periods of snow will continue through the afternoon, resulting in additional accumulations of one to two inches. Wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour are also expected, leading to snow squalls.

Madaus said the snow will taper off overnight while the metro area enters a deep freeze.

"As we move into Wednesday morning, we drop down to about 12 degrees," said Madaus. "Then, mostly cloudy on Thursday with a high of 32, and maybe a rain-snow mix on Friday with a high of 37."
