Winter Weather Advisory: 2-5 Inches Of Snow Expected In Detroit Area

DETROIT (WWJ) - Spring or not, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued with 2-5 inches of snow expected in metro Detroit overnight.

The advisory, which is in effect from 8 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday covers a decent-sized chunk of Southeast Michigan — Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties, including the cities of Ann Arbor and Detroit.

According to the National Weather Service, snow and rain in the afternoon will become all snow in the evening, then will begin accumulating around sunset.

Forecasters says wet, heavy snow working in from the west is expected cover local roadways and sidewalks making them slippery and travel may be impacted due to poor visibility.

"For the next couple of days here, it's going to be quite cold," said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick. "They may have trouble clearing the field tomorrow, for the Tiger's game tomorrow afternoon, as we are going to see snow at times throughout the night tonight — it will accumulate."

Feerick said metro Detroit will likely see 2-4 inches; a little more maybe to the south — with snowfall accumulation expected to be the heaviest toward the Ohio border. Low temperatures overnight will drop to around 27 degrees.

Snow showers are expected to taper off at some point Saturday morning, ahead of a little bit more snow changing to rain on Sunday into Monday.
