Prosecutor Who Quit After Posting That Protesters Should Be Shot Returns To Work

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - An assistant Wayne County prosecutor who quit last year after posting on Facebook that people assaulting police officers in Baltimore should be shot has returned to work for her former employer.

Wayne County prosecutor's office spokeswoman Maria Miller said in an email Thursday that Teana Walsh returned to work as a part-time contract employee in June.

Walsh's now-deleted post on her personal Facebook page read, according to reports:

"So I am watching the news in Baltimore and see large swarms of people throwing bricks, etc at police who are fleeing from their assaults … 15 in the hospital already. Solution. Simple. Shoot em. Period. End of discussion. I don't care what causes the protesters to turn violent…what the 'they did it because' reason is…no way is this acceptable. Flipping disgusting."

Walsh was out on maternity leave when she posted the comments.

Miller said in a statement at the time that the post was "out of character" and "does not reflect the person that we know."

The Detroit News reported Walsh's return Thursday.

Miller said Walsh isn't commenting.

Walsh's resignation on May 1, 2015, came as Baltimore's top prosecutor announced criminal charges in Freddie Gray's death.
