Heat Wave Going Strong, Temps To Feel Warmer Than 100° Friday

DETROIT (WWJ) - Hope you can handle the heat, because Friday is going to be a scorcher.

CBS Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus said temperatures in the 90s combined with high humidity will cause heat indices to exceed 100 degrees in most areas.

"We'll see lots of sunshine and of course with the instability, we could see a popup shower or storm as well," said Madaus.

A Heat Advisory remains in effect for all of southeast Michigan until 10 p.m. Friday.

Those spending time outdoors will be susceptible to dehydration and heat-related illness. Elderly persons, small children, pets and those without air conditioning will also be subject to heat stress. Residents are reminded to drink plenty of fluids, limit their exposure to the sun, and wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are both forms of heat-related illness. Signs of heat-related illness vary but may include: heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or vomiting, fainting, an extremely high body temperature (above 103°F) and tiredness. Heatstroke occurs when the body is unable to regulate its temperature, and can result in death if not treated promptly.
