Man Suspected In Detroit Boy's Shooting Surrenders To Police

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a man suspected in a shooting that wounded a 7-year-old boy in Detroit has turned himself in.

Torrey Craft surrendered Wednesday afternoon to police. The shooting was reported about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday on Fairview Street, near Mack Avenue and St. Jean Street on the city's east side.

According to police, Craft was involved in an argument with the boy's mother on Monday. Craft made good on a threat to return Tuesday — only he also allegedly brought along an assault weapon.

When the woman's brother blocked Craft from trying to visit, police say Craft opened fire, striking the boy in the leg.

The boy, who was outside with others at the time, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He was last reported in critical but stable condition.

Charges are pending.
