Enjoy This Warm Weather Metro Detroit, Wintry Blast Headed Our Way

DETROIT (WWJ) - While metro Detroit could hit a record high temperature Friday, snow is in the forecast for the weekend.

Forecasters say unseasonably warm temperatures might top  70 degrees Friday, breaking the record of 69 set 75 years ago. But unfortunately that warmth isn't sticking around.

Rain showers are expected to move in overnight, dropping the low down to around 41 degrees -- where the temperature will stay for most of the day Saturday.

"The rain showers will turn over to snow showers by late in the day and into Saturday night," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore. "Real feels will end up in the 20s most of the day Saturday and then the temperature drops to near 30, real feels in the teens, with snow showers -- maybe coating to an inch on grassy surfaces -- late Saturday night into Sunday morning. The rest of Sunday will be windy and cold with a high of 40, real feels in the 20s."

We'll start next week with temperatures in the 40s.

Snow is already flying in other parts of Michigan. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Upper Peninsula near Ironwood and along the Lake Superior shoreline, which is expected to see five to seven inches of snow is expected. Wind gusts of up to 60-miles per hour are also expected and could create waves of more than 15 feet.

Here's the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Saturday -- Cloudy, windy and cooler with a couple of showers, perhaps mixed with snow later. High 45F. Low 31F.
