Detroit Man Charged In Shooting Of 7-Year-Old Boy During Domestic Dispute

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man has been charged in last week's non-fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy during a domestic dispute.

Police say 24-year-old Torrey Craft got into an argument with male relatives of the mother of his 4-year-old daughter when they refused to let him into their home last Tuesday night on Fairview St., near Mack Ave. and St. Jean.

Craft allegedly came back to the neighborhood the next day — and when he saw those relatives he fired "an assault weapon" in their direction, striking the child in the groin area.

The boy, who's name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. He lost a lot of blood but was upgraded to stable condition following a successful surgery. He remains hospitalized.

Craft fled the scene following the incident but later turned himself in to police after his photo was widely circulated in the media and online.

He was arraigned Tuesday on three counts of assault with intent to murder, carrying a weapon with unlawful intent and felony firearm.

Craft is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on Friday.
